Helping you to live independently

Wherever we can, we’re happy to provide adaptations that help our customers live independently in their own homes. In agreement with the Council, we have a yearly budget to carry out adaptations to our own properties. There's 3 ways we can help:

Minor works (up to £500). These adaptations include grab rails, lever taps and small ramps and step alterations.

Medium works (up to £2,000). These are subject to a referral from an Occupational Therapist, and typical examples include large ramps, straight track stair lifts and over-bath showers.

Large adaptations (over £2,000). Examples include walk-in showers and stair lifts. These adaptations are carried out by the Council through a Disabled Facilities Grant (DFG), following an assessment by an Occupational Therapist.  We’re happy to help you fill in the forms – just let us know or speak to your Neighbourhood Officer.

How long does it take?

It takes between 10 and 20 days from referral to completion of works, depending on the size of the project.

Servicing

We’ll carry out an inspection once the work is completed, and then we’ll undertake services at periodic intervals.

Have you got an aid you no longer need?

If so, please let us know. We’ll remove it, store it, and use if to help another person. It also helps our budgets go a little bit further so we can help more people.

You can find more details in our Aids & Adaptations leaflet.
